This year me and my step mum are took part in Race for life in the "pretty muddy" course, which is a mud filled obstacle course! Supporting cancer research is something that is very very close to my heart, as all four of my grandparents have all suffered from cancer. I love these events as without them and all the fundraising and support that goes into it we would be able to have the cancer research we have today and its so so important that we all do as much was we can to support it as you never know who could be diagnosed with cancer.

My two Nanny's beat cancer, but unfortunately my two grandparents did not although they had a good fight. My Grandad on my mum's side suffered with two different types of cancer for 23 years and he was such a fighter and even though he was in so much pain for so many years, he was always so happy and grateful for everything he had and smiled and laughed every day. My Grandad on my dad's side had lung cancer and this was the biggest shock to all of us. Now my Grandad was the fittest person I knew, he was always doing something active and would always come ice skating with me, my brother and Kieran when we were all little. My Grandad was one of the most amazing people in my life, he was there for me so much when my mum and dad were going through their divorce and really supported my mum as well even though he was my dad's dad. My Grandad suffered with lung cancer for just over a year, which usually with lung cancer you have between 6-8 months. Towards the end he determined quite quickly, which really shocked me, I was 14 at the time and with my other Grandad always being ill I just thought he would get better. My Grandad's death really really effected me, more than I thought it would and I miss him so so much everyday. Everything I do I always want to make him proud.

My two Nanny's also suffered with cancer. My mum's mum had ovarian cancer a long time before I was born so I never got to see her struggle, but I know she suffered with miscarriages and so many complications when she gave birth to my mum and then the cancer occurred shortly after. I can imagine it was so so hard for her as my Nan was such a busy and workaholic and loved looking after everyone. My Nan pasted last year shortly after her husband (my Grandad) past, but not due to cancer so she won her fight! My dad's mum had breast cancer when I was about 7 or 8 years old. She had to keep going to the hospital all the time checking it and having treatments, but luckily it wasn't as bad as some might have, but anyone who has cancer no matter how bad, must be absolutely petrified! My Nan fought cancer and thankfully didn't have to have a mastectomy and is healthy and we all want to enjoy her company for as long as possible! I am so thankful for all of my grandparents and what role models of strength they are for me!

This is my story and why I ran race for life! We had such a good race and had such a good time doing it. Thank you to everyone who supported and sopncered me and my step mum, and lets beat cancer together!
