I thought I'd write a blog post about how my wedding planning is going. I thought this might be helpful to some of you because if you are like me, I had literally no idea what to do or even where on earth to start! I have been engaged now for nearly two years and we've started planning our wedding around end of January/ February time this year and I'm not going to lie until we actually started planning, I never really thought about it or what I wanted. I never really realised how much there is to do and also how freaking expensive everything is, so I hope this is helpful!
1. Buy A wedding Planner!
I absolutely adore my wedding planner! I purchased my one from Hobby Craft and it's got all different sections from finding your venue to budgeting and it gives you a great idea of things you need to do and in what order! Obviously there is so much that you need to do so the planner doesn't have everything, but I've written everything that isn't included in the "things to do pages" just so I don't miss them out!
2. Create a Pinterest bored
This has honestly helped me so much when deciding the colour scheme and all round design of everything for my wedding! Pinterest has absolutely everything you need for any ideas and really gives you a taste for what it is you want your wedding to be like!
3. Write a list of your priorities
When planning a wedding unfortunately you can't have everything at the highest standard, so something me and Kieran have done is write out a list of different parts of the wedding that we want to spend more on and bits that we don't care too much about. For example we have spent more on the photographer because its something I really want done well, rather than spend loads of money on a 5 course meal or whatever.
4. Talk about where!
Me and Kieran both want to get married in our home village and where we have both been brought up and It's special to us as this is where we first met and we've both got a lot of memories here. We also decided to have the reception close to the church just because I think it's so much more practical as I have family who aren't local and I can't think of anything worse than people driving miles and miles away and getting lost just to get to the reception. That was a main reason for choosing our venue apart from the fact its stunning!
5. Save wherever you can!
All the little bits can really add up so what I am doing is trying to be as savvy and creative as I can and really making the use of the time we have. Instead of just going ahead and buying, think about weather you can actually make it yourself, it will be more personal and also save you some money!
6. Don't Rush
Like I said before, me and kieran have been engaged for nearly two years now and we decided a long time ago we want a summer wedding. I always said I want to plan a year in advance and as we started planning in late January, we would have had 16 months of planning overall. Which I know sounds a long time but i'm so so glad I've done it this way! We have already had to move our date once, as our photographer we wanted was booked up and that's over a year in advance! It has also given us the time to be able to really find what we want, to shop around and most importantly enjoy the moment and not just rushing to get it all done and sorted! This is only going to happen once so enjoy the time you have to plan!
