My A2 level photography final pieces
For my final year of photography I had two units to complete unit3 called “The Personal investigation” and my unit 4, “people and possessions.” both these units I really enjoyed experimenting and really being able to find my own style of photography.
“The Personal Investigation”
At the begging of this unit I was really struggling with what do and thinking of ideas. I wanted to come up with an idea or something that was extremely personal or even a personal issue that I have faced. Throughout this unit I also have been learning many different new ways of photography, which really improved my photography and made me love this art form more. I experimented with different approaches such as taking photos of people one photo with make up on and one photo with makeup off and merging half and half of these images together to show how people can feel insecure without makeup on and how it can be a mask or a barrier for girls. I experimented more with this but still didn't think it was personal enough. I thought about involving myself into the images to show that it was my project and about me so I could connect with the work I was doing. I thought about what is personal to me and who knows me in a personal way? My relationships with my closest family and friends are the most important to me as they know me in that personal way, they know what makes me happy, what makes me sad, what I've been through, etc., and I wanted to show this in this unit through photography. The title of my project is called “This is me” as the people that I have photographed have impacted and moulded me and made me who I am in one way or another. I took these images using low key and black and white as I wanted to have a running theme through this images as my final piece was a photo book. My book contained nine images. Of each persona I took a portrait and also a natural photo of me and the person together. I thought this would be a good combination to also show a portrait of the individual to show my photography and also trying to show more of the other person’s personality.
his particular unit was very personal to me I thoroughly enjoyed exploring more of photography!
“People and Possesions”
For my exam unit I had literally no idea what to do. Then as I dissected more each question I found that “people and possessions” would be the question to start my project on. I thought more and more about what are possessions to people? How can I interpret this? Etc. then I thought about it. Tattoos. Tattoos are on your body each and every day. Every day you see them when you wake up and until you go to bed. They’re there through every walk and aspect of your life to remind of a memory, a person, or a time period. No a tattoo is not a physical possession, but it’s so much more than that. I have been obsessed with the art form of tattoos for years, the fact that you can have a piece of art permanently on your body and that goes with you where ever you go, really interests me! My project is called “More than meets the eye” as through this project I have gone about photographing people and asking them a series of questions about they’re tattoos and why are they so personal to them. You could just walk by someone and think they have a lot of tattoos but you would never know what that deeper meaning maybe. And by photographing people I wanted to show that it’s not just the stereotypical motorcyclist with long hair and piercings, it can be anyone of all different ages and all walks of life that see a reason to get a tattoo. My final piece for this unit is also a book as I think photobooks are a great and also a clean way of laying out your images and also keeping them together. I have really enjoyed both of these two units as it has given me a chance to express my personality more and areas I really love and have a great passion for!
